RENEGADE R5 MKII

Rengade R5 MKII

Design

The MKII came about after the R6 was drawn and we asked ourselves if we could translate some of what makes the R6 so good into the platform we already have in the R5 MKI. The simple answer was yes, the more complex one was she would need a new hull. Our goal was then to retain what makes the R5 such a comfortable and easy to handle offshore performance yacht and add more of the finishing trims and hull volumes that people expect in a modern performance liveaboard. To that end, she features a redesigned hull that is slightly wider, slightly longer, and allows her to carry a little more in the way of creature comforts, although the Mk1 was no slouch in this regard. Her engineering has been completely redone and the platform now features full carbon construction for all of the full-width bulkheads as standard with all components vacuum infused for optimum weight and structure integrity control.

Living

The additional hull volume and the new R6 inspired coachroof allow for the MKII to feature a similar ultra-versatile 3 or 4 cabin layout to the majestic R6. She retains the MKI’s large saloon but gains better visibility and headroom along with an opening helm window and twin sliding roof hatches above the helm as found on the R6. Her internal finishing utilises natural timbers clad over foam cored structure as well as synthetic textured surfaces bonded on to PVC substrates. This allows for just about any graphic design to be printed and applied to these areas. In fact, a supremely cost effective interior refit of the textured surfaces can be pre-cut and couriered to the yacht for quick local application whenever her owners decide they would like to change those features on her interior. She shares the 4 position aft beam/seat/davits with the R6, features very large bunks throughout and includes an overhanging galley counter which allows for a breakfast/bar seating common.

Technology

As previously, we are offering the Mk2 with a full Torqeedo deep blue propulsion system as standard and the design has been further refined to be built around electric propulsion, however, there is a traditional diesel option available. The optional ‘sail by wire’ package takes the previously sublime feeling steering system to another level and adds 2 more outboard seated tiller steering positions, each with remote control of the traveler line driver and trimming winches, creating a full vision one handed sailing experience. The starboard aft cabin on the 3 cabin version is left ‘open’ on purpose as this space can be used for many different things sans the presence of diesel engines.

Performance

We already know what a great performer the Mk1 is, simply put, the Mk2 is just better and we’ve made an already simple and ergonomic sailing cockpit even more user friendly with a larger area featuring seating and all lines under deck.

Design

The Regatta version was developed with the Idea of creating a vessel that offers exceptional performance that is purposefully built to maximize the sailing experience without sacrificing comfort. Our intention is to offer a product that is light weight, strong, fast and thrilling to sail. The yacht will be constructed using a full carbon laminate and matched with a full carbon spars package. The larger FWD/AFT cockpits allow for additional crew to man the systems whist providing ample space to relax and enjoy the experience.

Living

The standard configuration offers two Queen size bunks with the option for additional accommodation, or storage, dependent on requirements. There is sufficient seating for 10 guests in the aft cockpit after an action-packed day. The large galley also offers ease of access to the forward and aft cockpit making both areas easy to service. The ability of the davit system to recline also adds to the flow, seating, and volume of this versatile area.

Technology

Once again we will offer the Torqeedo Deep Blue System on this range. Duel MFD displays at the helm, as well as display instrumentation on the mast will keep you connected to the environment around you. Four harken winches will be offered in this variant allowing for quick sail adjustments. Larger Daggerboards, seated in self aligning bearing cases, will also afford you that little extra angle when necessary. A harken pedestal will also feature in this boat for additional control and trimming.

Performance

The performance of the R5 speaks for itself where she comfortably achieves 200 miles per day without generating high loads which cause breakages. She covers distances effortlessly, but can also be dialled up to reward sailors with an exhilarating ride when required. Her sailing cockpit is a safe and secure sail handling area optimised for single handing with all sail controls in one location and includes an electric line driver (used on all the R line yachts) to control the mainsheet traveler.
